30 starters played in sunshine for Goodalls meat voucher. Scores were high but the points were close. Winners on the day Warren Munce David Paterson and Bill Gilligan with 23 points with 21 points on a count back going to Clive Roberts Geoff Parry and Hans Pynenburg.
Graham Burton contested the final of the district reserve singles at Tura Beach Bowling Club on saturday 4May2019. Up against Peter McLenn from Candelo in cool conditions, Graham got off to a good start winning a four on the forth end and going out to a 7/2 lead. The game went of a total of 36 end with the game tied at 24 all at the thirtieth end and from there it was shot for shot. Graham secured a 3 and 2 on the last 2 ends to win 31/26 in a game that could have gone either way. This title and being a singles title is the first Tura has won for a number of years.
We had 64 players swell the greens of Tura on wednesday. 29 players from the past presidents annual bus visit from the Gippsland area playing with us. This group have made this trip north for over 30 years. The oldest member bowling from that group is 92 and has been coming since 1992. His name is Jim Vicary. He still looks forward to the trip every year.
The winners were numerous as all cards were fanned from top and bottom green. The country club looks forward to these visits to showcase what Tura has to offer.
Selected triples were the order of the day this wednesday but we had 30 players so a game of fours was added. 2 Ladies came along and were most welcomed.
With 24 points Kel Duncombe Bill Rogers and the ever improving Clive Roberts took the money. Runner up was a team of fours led by Mike Reynolds Russel Stuart Kerrie Burns and Bill Schwensen with 22 points.
Tura Beach did battle with Tathra in division 5. Tathra looking for their second win of the season. Well it came down to the last bowl by Tura skipper Geoff May to secure a 5 on the last end for the 2 teams to come out with a draw on the big board with Tathra. However they secured a victory overall with a score of 5.5 to 4.5. The grade 6 suffered another loss going down9points to 1 against Bega. The last round is next weekend with both teams home to Candelo and a Bbq to finish the season.
